PostSubject: Need a set of injectors   Mon Mar 30, 2009 2:24 am

Since I lost one injector, I'm anticipating that the others will begin to fall one by one.

I'd rather just put new injectors in (vs. used) though might consider "slightly" used.

Question is... For NA, any reason to go with 555's or just stick w. 370's?

Steve

Oh lord, what a noob. I think you're right... Embarassed Over 8 years with this car and I never knew that...

Nevermind... My ASHspec ECU has the '270' circled so I'm guesing I would have to change my ECU to work with larger injectors and I don't know why I would want to anyway.

I guess I'm thinking if I find a "slightly used" set of 370's I would drop them in but it doesn't sound like a good idea now.

weeeelll i recommend the 740's because there cheaper or were cheaper than the 555's and they really can make a huge diffrence too Very Happy I didnt notice i fuel economy diffrence but honestly the car wasnt running perfect when i got them either. I only recently slayed the grimlens

But don't you have to change your ECU mapping?

^yes, you do. for any injector size change you'll need to. and i've heard there's no point in ever getting anything larger than stock size injectors on an NA. TTs are obviously a different story. so stick with 270s Smile. i've asked about 370s too but apparently there's absolutely no benefit whatsoever.

well i would have to agree with stephen about the injectors, my dumb self didnt think about the NA idea. That is unless you decide to raise your compression. I assume it would not hurt to raise to 370's.

As for ECU mapping you would have to get a chip for the larger injectors same if you were to switch to doolz intake or go say from automatic tranny to manual FYI Smile

Thanks for the help, guys. I'll just start looking for some good stock 270's and when (if ever) I pull my plenum I'll just change out all my injectors at once along with the water line and EGR delete.

I was going to say that there is no real benefit to upgrading to larger injectors on a non turbo Z unless you have did a great deal of internal work to the engine IE high compression pistons "11 to 1 or higher" and high lift cams and or running nitrous oxide. In either scenario this would prevent you from leaning out your air fuel ratio and having catastrophic failure as a result of detonation..

I do have a set of 6 early stile injectors in good condition still in the rail if you still need them let me know.

I thought I had the later "pintle-less" injectors? Would a pic help?

What's the age on them? Even if they ohm out OK, I'm still suspicious they will fail if they've already been in use for 10-15 years...

For what its worth Z that they where pulled from was a 93NA and had just a little over 100K on the clock however injectors are a rather funny evil. I have personally seen injectors fail both new and old stile OEM and Nismo within a year or less. I have also worked on a 91 2+2 This was a one famly Z till only a few years ago when it was sold. It hade over 250,000 miles on it and it still had the original engine and the owner told me the only things he hade to replace outside of the normal maintenance was the clutch a few times and upgraded to a 1 piece drive shaft when the carrier bearing when out.

I think that all electronics based parts can be held to somewhat of the same standard as injectors IE the MAF, O2 sensor, solenoids, ect. Take this for example a little over a year ago I did a large amount of work fro Read "fairladyaffair" during his build I tested his injectors when the engine was out and everything came back normal and once he got his babby back he was very happy. No more then 2 months after he got it back he hade one or two fail out on him. Just an additional testament that gremlins are not fictional creatures and they live in are Z's
